Southwestern School District is being sued over alleged student abuse. A Southwestern family is suing the school district over their high school son, who was threatened and then later brutally attacked in the school bathroom by other high school students. This incident occurred in April of 2025, more specifically, the main threat was reported to be on April 28th, and then the attack was the day after, April 29th. Threats that were earlier in April weren’t “important” enough to have been reported. The suit was filed Feb. 12, 2026 by the student’s parents. It was said somebody had threatened to “curb-stomp” the boy the day before the incident. The boy was urged to report this threat. He listened and spoke with Toshia Brodbeck, who is the dean of students at South Western High School. Brodbeck told the student to come back the next day to file a formal report. The father had then taken it into his own hands and had reported this to the school principal, yet the school did nothing about it. The lawsuit claims that school officials failed to protect the student and the family is using it for more money within the lawsuit because they see it as the school’s fault that it happened. The South Western School district also has past records of facing criticism over bullying and the school boards anti LGBTQ+ policies. The day after the father had reported the threat to the school is when the altercation took place. The boy had a variety of injuries, including a grade four liver laceration, compression injury to the thoracic vertebrae, permanent scarring, severe shock, and physiological and/or emotional injuries. The family is suing South Western School District for $50,000, plus they want to be freed of all costs and other relief that the court might deem necessary. The school has been silent since and will not give comments about the situation.
