On Monday, March 16, 2026, severe storms hit many different parts of Pennsylvania. In York County, the extreme weather led to a barn roof being ripped off, as well as numerous trees being uprooted. As of 5pm, the strongest effects of the storm had passed. A tornado watch was issued up until 7 PM. Gusts of wind up to 50 mph occurred until around 11 PM. With the severe and concerning conditions, many York County schools dismissed early.
About 25 people were called to the York County Office of Emergency Management building to monitor the weather. Julie Wheeler, president commissioner for York county stated, “we err on the side of caution we’d rather activate the emergency operation center and not need them versus just not activating it at all.” The weather website, AccuWeather.com, referred to this severe weather as the “ March megastorm.”
Luckily, no tornado storm throughout these warnings but severe damage from the other weather conditions occurred in numerous counties.
