Ivanna Ortiz, the 35 year-old woman who was criminally charged after attempting to murder singer Rihanna at her $14 million Beverly Hills mansion with a semiautomatic firearm is pleading not guilty in court.
On April 8th, Ortiz appeared in court one month after not pleading guilty to 14 charges, including attempting murder and firing five to seven shots while Rihanna was inside the home. During the courtroom appearance Ortiz’s lawyer asked her bail to be reduced to $70,000 but the judge determined that the bail amount of $1.87 million would remain the same.
Ortiz, had no prior police record, but also pleaded not guilty through her attorney to more than a dozen other felony courts. Although Ortiz told detectives she would not answer questions without a lawyer, she spoke up once though and said, “Can I say one sentence?”. “I would like to say that I wasn’t attempting murder. But that’s all I wanted to say.”
Although the exact motive is still under investigation, reports found before the incident she posted multiple videos on social media rambling about Rihanna and making discarding comments. She had claimed Rihanna was stealing from her, was jealous of her and accused the singer of being a witch or a devil’s face.
While Rihanna has still not commented publicly on the incident, Ortiz is currently in custody at Los Angeles County Jail after being denied a request to reduce her bail. She will be having a preliminary hearing on May 13th.
