On January 9th, 2026 a 15 year old boy in Long Island, New York, named Thomas Medlin, wanted to finally meet his friend on Roblox in person but the boy never came back alive. Two months later his body was found dead in the waters of Red Hook right off of Brooklyn, New York.
Authorities stated that the time the boy set out was about the time his school district let their students out for the weekend, which was at 3:30pm on Friday. The boy’s last journey started, and the last time he was spotted was by cameras at the Grand Central Station in Manhattan.
Over 2 months after the boy went missing, his body was found in the waters of Red Hook. Though everyone thought the Roblox friend had a part in the boy’s death, detectives said that there were no signs of murder.
After his disappearance, detectives said that the boy’s parents stated that their son had told them that he was going to NYC to meet a friend he had met on an online game, yet they didn’t think twice to stop him and now he’s gone. The parents knew of his plan, they knew he was going to NYC. They knew he was just a kid but yet still let him go off to NYC by himself. Yes it might have only been a 30 min drive, but walking that’s another hour. So many worse things could have happened to that poor boy. Even though his passing is the worst circumstance, it could have been a much worse death.
Around the time span of the 2 months when the boy was missing his mother had told media detectives that his actions of wanting to leave and go meet this online friend were very out of the ordinary for him.
