A York Pennsylvania man has been convicted of murder for a shooting that took place in July 2021 at Cousler park.
Elijah Devon Roman Penn who is 22 now faces life in prison after shooting to death 20 year old Justin Griffith. The shooting took place at a basketball court on July 5 2021. After a week-long trial which ended in not only a murder charge but also attempted murder, aggravated assault and recklessness endangering another person.
What started with a dispute between Penn and a man, then led to Penn walking up to a group on a basketball court and opening fire which ended up killing Griffith.
“I personally got to know Justin’s family and the impact this tragedy had on them and the entire community” Attorney General Dave stated.
Elijah fired 16 shots targeting a member of a rival gang. Penn had stated that the wounded man drew and fired and that Penn had returned and acted in self defense.
Justin Griffith had just been a bystander when he was shot in the back and killed. “ This illustrates the seeming less of gun violence with killing a purely innocent victim who was enjoying warm summer weather, playing basketball at the park” the attorney general said.
Sentencing was scheduled for February 13 2026. “ the attorney general stated ” Hope this verdict offers a sense of justice that assists in their healing process”.
