The Cowboys Defense has been ranked near the bottom of the barrel, with being ranked around 30th or 32nd in the league. They primarily struggle with pass defense and points allowed. The Cowboys run defense is ranked poorly due to struggling with gap control and tackling fundamentals. The defense has let up a huge number of rushing yards. The pass defense is also struggling, the defensive line lacks consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks from pass rush, they give the opposing quarterback too much time in the pocket. Over the pre-season, Micah Parsons was traded to the Green Bay Packers for a couple reasons like, desire to reallocate resources, and an effort to improve the defense in a different way.
Now that the Cowboys have lost a key player on their defense, their pass rush isn’t as good as it used to be. But recently Jerry Jones made a huge trade with the New York Jets, Jerry traded a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith to the Jets for Three Time Pro Bowl Quinnen Williams. With the Cowboys defensive tackles being Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams, stopping the inside run should be a walk in the park. Jerry then traded a seventh-round pick for Cincinnati Bengals Linebacker Logan Wilson.
Wilson is known for his instincts, tackling, and pass coverage skills, which made him a leader for the Bengals. The Dallas Cowboys have also released DeMarvion Overshown, Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, and Shavon Revel Jr. from the injury reserved list. These are all key players that the Cowboys need to help that defense improve where they need the most improvement. The Cowboys are facing their division rivals at home this Sunday. The eagles are favored to win, but barely beat the cowboys in week 1 20-24 with that old defense. Now with the reinforcements on this “new look” Cowboys defense, the eagles will have a lot more trouble passing the ball and calling inside run plays. The Cowboys will then play the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving night at home, then they’ll play the Lions in their hunt to make the play-offs.
