Four time Pro Bowl star Micah Parsons is set to be traded ahead of Cowboys week one matchup versus the Philadelphia Eagles. The Parsons package included himself and sent three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark to the Cowboys with the addition of two separate first-round draft picks from Green Bay.
Parsons, who was the cornerstone of the Cowboys franchise for the last couple of years, is heading to the tundra and will be playing for the Packers ahead of week one. For the Cowboys, it means not only did their contract negotiations not fair well, they’ve lost an irreplaceable player on their defense. The negotiations can date back to the pre-season of last year when Parsons was eligible for an extension. However the Cowboys organization opted for the security of their franchise quarterback along with their prestige wide out in Ceedee Lamb. In the post season of the 2024 season Parsons was advised not to hastily rush into a contract until some other defensive stars signed their own. This was an attempt to increase his future value and solidify a defensive player of the year level contract.
March of 2025 contract negotiations involving Jerry Jones emerged in a meeting regarding team leadership, which wasn’t considered by Parsons to be official negotiations. April through May of that same year rumors arose about a potential deal party of both sides, as the Cowboys looked to finalize negotiations with Parsons. The last and latest report leading up till now was during July 2025 where Jerry Jones claims Parsons’ agent used some foul language when going through the finalization of Parsons contract. Evidently, Parsons is now on the Packers on a four year, $188 million dollar contract. The Packers are looking to reach the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive season. With the recent excellence of Packers quarterback Jordan Love it would not be a stretch to say Green Bay is a championship contender. The single caller has thrown a pair of touchdowns to zero turnovers in his 2025 campaign, as the Packers open up their season 2-0.
