South Carolina executed 67 year old Brad Sigmon, who was convicted in a double murder in 2002, he died Friday March 7, 2025. He was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend’s parents and kidnapping. He got the death Penalty and was executed by firing squad. He was in a black jumpsuit and was strapped to a chair with a bullseye placed over his heart.
He had a choice on how he was executed, his choices were electric chair, lethal injection, or firing squad and he chose the firing squad.
In 2021 there was a bill signed that legalized the firing squad but the inmate had to choose it. Since 1977, only three people had died by firing squad and all three of them were in the state of Utah. Sigmon was the first person in South Carolina history to be executed by a firing squad and the first person in the U.S in 15 years. His final statement called for a end to the death penalty and he quoted bible verses then said “Nowhere does God in the New Testament give man the authority to kill another man.”
