Artificial intelligence has affected the world by needing more use of energy to function and perform properly, their data centers use about 4% of electricity nationwide. Mara Pusic reported, in 2018 the percentage of electricity used for data centers was 1.9%, it’s estimated that by 2028 the percentage could rise up to 12%. The large amounts of water are used to cool the electricity generation while also indirectly used for material manufacturing. It’s also estimated that U.S. data centers have directly consumed 21.2 billion liters of water in 2024 and 66 billion in 2023. It’s presumed that around 5 million of water everyday can be taken even from a mid sized data center. In many different articles it states that artificial intelligence has highly impacted the job rate around the world, it states that employment for people ranging from 22-25 fell 6% between late 2022 and July of 2025. Artificial intelligence truly does take away from people’s lives, taking their jobs and people who specialize in software or coding their jobs get impacted heavily because most of those careers artificial intelligence does well at companies that would prefer having AI do it for them. NPR reports that the three mile island power plant will be re-opening in 2027, it was seen to be one of the worst commercial nuclear accidents in U.S. history. It will be re-opening to power Microsoft data centers, which are responsible for powering the tech giant’s cloud computing and artificial intelligence programs. It will be renamed to “ The Cranes Clean Energy Center” in honor of Chris Crane who passed away in April. The re-opening of the plant will approximately provide 3,400 employment options, it will bring in more than $3 billion in state and federal taxes. The continuing impacts of AI could harm our world even more if it continues to be used.
