Smart bell livestock monitoring is a newer technology that was specifically created to help farmers and researchers to be able to track their livestock’s health and gather data on their livestock.
The system provides 24/7 oversight on the animals welfare and is constantly monitoring and taking data on them with the tag/collar device. The tag/collar is lightweight, reusable tags equipped with a sensor to monitor body temperature, movement patterns, and behavior. The tag will transfer the data to a receiver station that is a wall mounted unit that collects the data and then wirelessly sends it to the cloud. Cloud intelligence will then analyze the data to see if everything is alright with the animal. If something is wrong the cloud will have the information in the app for farmers to track so that farmers can take action before the animal is sick.
This technology is very useful and has been proven to be 80% accuracy in disease deception some studies even say it’s an 88% accuracy specially for catching sick calves. The technology has even received a commendation award for innovation at the British cream awards for its ability to “make a real difference” to animal welfare. The system is mainly used on cows and young calves but it’s also been proven to work on sheep and bison.
This technology has been proven to be very useful and a great way for farmers and researchers to understand livestock. The company hopes to expand in the technology they have and to keep developing the software. Smart bell hopes to develop it more so that the system can even detect early signs of heat stress. They also are developing specialized sensors to measure carbon and ammonia emission in barns. This technology shows how much smart bell cares and hopes to improve the way farmers do things.
