In western Pennsylvania, according to CBS news, Jessica Mauthe is facing one count of criminal homicide, one count of involuntary manslaughter, four counts of concealing the death of a child and four counts of abuse of a corpse, Pennsylvania State Police announced on Thursday. The infant’s dead corpses were found in her rental home. The discovery was made on September 13, 2025, when the landlord was cleaning out the rental home. Mauthe admitted to giving birth to the infants over a period of about six years. State police said the remains were found in a bedroom closet and in the attic. When the landlord came across a trash bag with a foul odor and something wrapped in towels that was decomposing. The infants were inside those towels. Mauthe allegedly told police that about a year ago, she gave birth to an infant, wrapped it in a towel, and held it against her, where it remained until it stopped making noises and stopped breathing. Mauthe claimed that she gave birth to another child and then passed out on top of the baby. When she woke up, the baby was dead underneath her. She then hid the body in the attic. She was charged with involuntary manslaughter for this death. In another instance, Mauthe gave birth in the toilet. Authorities said she left the baby in the toilet for about 15 minutes before she removed the baby. During that time, she heard the baby making noises. Mauthe told investigators that she removed the baby from the toilet, wrapped it in a towel and held the baby until it stopped making noises and stopped breathing, placed the baby in several plastic bags and hid its body in a closet. The cause of death for the fourth infant was not detailed, though an autopsy confirmed a fourth deceased child was found. According to investigators, Mauthe never got medical attention for any of the babies and never notified anyone. Felix also questioned how the deaths could have happened. “How could she do that, three times? You don’t just plop babies in toilets,” he said. “The whole neighborhood is in shock.” Jessica Mauthe has two sons, ages 6 and 8, and a husband, Jacob Mauthe, who is currently incarcerated, according to people.com. Carmen Felix, who lived nearby and frequently watched the boys, said the neighborhood is still reeling. “It’s just evil. It’s beyond sick,” he told CBS. Everybody watches out for each other. Them two boys of hers, the whole neighborhood babysat them.” Felix added that he had no idea she was pregnant. Another neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said she often watched the boys and fed them.”Her support system was minimal, and I think she loved her boys,” the neighbor said. “I feel she tried the best she could for them. I can’t speak for the negativity that happened.” Greta Marie Kiser has been listed as Mauthe’s defense lawyer, and for Armstrong County District Attorney, Katie Charlton. Mauthe is in the Armstrong County Jail without bail. She was charged with criminal homicide for the death a year ago, involuntary manslaughter for the death about six years ago, and four counts each of concealing the death of a child and abuse of a corpse. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next week.
