On February 9th, Super Bowl LIX took place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Philadelphia Eagles shut out the Kansas City Chiefs, rolling to a 40-22 victory that wasn’t even as close as the final score indicated. The revenge factor was high for the Eagles, who had a major upset two years before against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
Super Bowl LIX was loaded with surprise after surprise. Patrick Mahomes ended the game with six sacks, which resulted in a lost fumble; Mahomes threw two interceptions, with one ending in a touchdown, and missed pass after pass to his running backs.
There were also plenty of crazy plays that happened during the game. Philadelphia dominated the first quarter but Kansas City had a chance to tie the game after intercepting Hurts early in the second quarter but they just couldn’t finish the play successfully. The play ended up in the chiefs having to punt from their own 9-yard line. But the craziest play of the game goes to Cooper DeJean. With Philadelphia leading 10-0, Mahomes had the ball and attempted to throw the ball to Hopkins but the pass was overthrown and caught by DeJean. DeJean caught the ball at the Kansas City 38-yard line and ran the ball into the end zone for a pick 6. It was also DeJean’s 22nd birthday.
Philadelphia was the big winner Sunday night and it led to a three-plus hour party in the streets to celebrate a strong defense and aggressive offense that led them to defeat the back to back champs.
