On January 19, 72-year-old Lillian Curtis was crushed by a falling Denny’s sign in Elizabethtown, Ky.
Alongside her in the vehicle was her 77-year old husband Lloyd Curtis and 58-year-old daughter Mary
Graham. However, Lloyd passed away in the hospital the morning after the incident leaving the family to
grieve even more.
Chris Denham, Elizabethtown Police spokesman, said that the sign fell due to high winds. The day of the
incident, the wind speeds reached up to 50mph, causing the sign to fall. The sign is back on the pole and
much smaller than the one that fell and has been secured.
Denny’s responded to the incident saying, “Denny’s is aware of the incident that took place at our
Elizabethtown location on Thursday. Safety is our top priority, and we are working with the authorities to
better understand what led to this situation. Our thoughts are with all of those involved.”
