2023 Super Bowl Preview

On February 12th, history will be made as the Kansas City Chiefs will go against the Philadelphia Eagles in Arizona as an amazing way to end this 2023 season. For the first time ever, two brothers will be playing in the big game as Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Eagles center Jason Kelce will face each other. Before matchup can be covered, the two Championship games must be looked at first.

This past Sunday was where it was all decided, as first the Eagles took on the San Francisco 49ers in Philadelphia. This game could not have been more one sided, as the Eagles dominated the 49ers 31-7 to advance to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2018. Rookie quarterback Brock Purdue for the 49ers, who had been 7-0 since replacing Jimmy Garoppolo due to injury, sadly suffered an injury of his own against Philadelphia, as on a fumble his elbow was bent back causing a UCL injury.

Later in the day, a rematch of last years AFC Championship took place between the Chiefs and Bengals. A lot was at stake during this game, as during the week the city of Cincinnati rambled about how star quarterback Joe Burrow hasn’t lost a game yet against Kansas City. Things were a little different this time around, as the Chiefs were able to pull through with an injured Patrick Mahomes and win this 23-20 after a late drive in the 4th quarter, and advance to the Super Bowl yet again.

The Chiefs didn’t hold back after the game, which was not surprising after the chatter from Bengals fans and players of the team. All-pro tight end Travis Kelce after the game said, “Know your role and shut your mouth, you jabroni.” This obviously was more chatter to the Bengals, but the quote will most likely go down as one of the more entertaining post game interviews fans have seen.

With the stage now set, there are certainly some things to watch for. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid used to be the head coach for Philadelphia, and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni used to be an assistant coach for Kansas City. Along with this, the brothers Jason and Travis Kelce will face each other in the biggest games of their careers.
