Seokjin Leaves for the Military

On December 12, 2022, Kim Seokjin is going to serve his 18 months in the military for
South Korea. Usually, men in South Korea have a mandatory obligation to enlist into the
army for at least a year and a half to two years at 18. Jin, as many know him as, has been
able to bypass this rule for 12 years.
Many korean and international fans stood beside BTS along their journey, especially
through their journey of making history. Jin was able to postpone his enlistment for a while,
and he had his reasons for it too. One of the reasons for his postponement was, “I originally
planned to enlist in June but in order to be courteous to fans, I waited until our October
performance [in Busan]. I didn’t want a tearful performance so my [enlistment]
announcement was delayed.” Jin was planning on enlisting, but with so many things on his
plate and with the group schedules, He just couldn’t find the right time.
After he found the time to go in, many fans were shocked by the sudden
announcement of his enlistment. He even posted a picture of his buzz cut that was required.
Some fans were expecting this to happen at some point, but some fans were shocked that he
went through with it, due to the fact that he hasn’t gone for a while. The rest of the group
members have also bypassed the age to enlist into the military. With jin going into the
military, the group thinks it’s best to start their military time in 2023 to get their mandatory
time over and regroup in 2025. Best of luck to Jin and the other members in the military!
