National Emergency Declared

Today, on 2/15/19, President Donald Trump has declared a national emergency bill in order to get funding to build his wall. This wall was a main point for his campaign in mid 2016.

Trump has stated that he was taking “critical actions” but “not because it was a campaign promise”.

He explained, “We’re talking about an invasion of our country with drugs, with human traffickers, with all types of criminals and gangs”.

The wall will require a total of 8 billion dollars from the congressional appropriations bill, executive action and the emergency declaration.

A senior White House official who understands this plan to get this sum of money beyond the congressional funding told ABC News how “$1.375 billion would come from the spending bill Congress passed Thursday; $600 million would come from the Treasury Department’s drug forfeiture fund; $2.5 billion would come from the Pentagon’s drug interdiction program; and through an emergency declaration: $3.5 billion from the Pentagon’s military construction budget.”
