Alex Smith Injured In Coincidental Circumstances

The date is November 18, 1985. Joe Theismann is the Washington Redskins quarterback. They are playing the New York Football Giants. Joe dropped back as three time defensive player of the year, Lawrence Taylor, came rushing off the edge on his blind side. Four seconds later, everything turns to a blur as Taylor jumps on Theismann and gruesomely snaps his leg on Monday night football.

Joe Theismann would never play another down of pro football. This past Sunday was 33 years to the date of this injury, and Joe Theisman decided to attend the Redskins game. This is where the eerie coincidences begin. Alex Smith, the Redskins quarterback, dropped back to pass and got sacked, but there’s more. His leg was broken with the same injury Theismann suffered exactly 33 years ago. It happened on the same yard line, and both games finished with the same final score. Furthermore, they were both sacked by the only two 3 time defensive player of the year award winners.

If Alex Smith ever plays again remains to be seen.
