The last time the Colorado Rockies were above .500 was 2010. The Colorado Rockies are one of the least successful teams in all of baseball. For example the team has never won a world series in their 33 years of being a team. In that time they have only made the postseason 3 times in 1995, 2007, and in 2009. These struggles have come from bad player development, poor draft picks, hesitant free agency, struggles with money, altitude challenges, and consistent losing which caused players to back out of that organization from being drafted in high school. The Colorado Rockies have had 3 consecutive 100 loss seasons. The Rockies rank last in every main stat. category which has led to more and more disappointing seasons for the organization. Will this team ever get better? Possibly.
In order to fix this team, they will have to relocate. Their stadium, Coors Field, is approximately 5,280 feet above sea level. The average elevation for an MLB stadium is 200-300 feet. This high elevation means that the ball will fly much higher than a normal field. With them playing here half their season they will obviously lose most of their games due to sub par pitching and hitting. My suggestion would be to move to eastern Colorado where it is significantly lower than western Colorado.
Secondly, improve the depth chart. Instead of picking future “one of one talents” choose players that fill out your potential needs. Since the Rockies have had three 100 loss seasons consecutively they are bound to have high draft picks and multiple. With these they need to pick their lowest attribute to fill out. Then slightly evolve and develop until they are maxed potential. With this comes financial growth. Doing this will save you spending money on free agents. Which then you can use in the future to secure really good players.
Lastly, be more aggressive in free agency. Once you have saved up money and have grown your financial budget you can finally use this money to upgrade your coaching staff to more experienced people and to make sure you get future talents. Make sure to save some money for contracts on the players you already have.
