Radule Bojovic was taken by ICE on October 16th after being accused of living here illegally for 10 years. He was said to have overstayed a visa that expired in 2015
In a statement from the village of Hanover Park later that Thursday said the police department had received a work authorization card for him issued by the U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services, and it has recently been renewed. Hanover Park village also stated that Bojovic had completed a successful background check with the Illinois State Police Department and the FBI.
“The bottom line is that all information we received from the federal government indicated that Officer Bojovic is legally authorized to work in the United States as a police officer. Clearly, without that authorization, the Village would not have hired him”
“Governor J.B Pritzker doesn’t allow violent illegal aliens to terrorize the Illinois community” The village says they will continue to monitor his immigration process and if he is permitted and authorized to stay in the United States he will be able to return to the Hanover Park Police Department. Bojovic is currently being held at the Clay County Justice Center in Brazil, Indiana records showed.
PD provided DHS taken in August after he graduated from the academy. He will return to full duty status if he is issued back.
“Background checks performed by the FBI and the Illinois State Police revealed no criminal history. If he did not have the correct federal work authorization he would have not been hired.” Said the board president of the Hanover Village. “Bottom line is that we performed all the necessary due diligences and followed the law throughout the hiring process” he also said.
“DHS stated that Bojovic was encountered during a targeted enforcement action, which was a part if operations midway blitz.
