An Arizona man is scheduled to be executed for the brutal killings of four members of a Phoenix family more than 30 years ago.
The man facing execution,Dyer, was convicted for his role in a horrible crime that took place September 14, 1993. Dyer and another man broke into the home of the Luna family, a quiet household in Phoenix. 2 men attacked the home. Leaving 4 people dead, Albert Luna, his wife Patricia Luna, their 18 year old daughter Rachelle Luna, and their youngest son Damien. Damien was only 5 years old around this time. The attack shocked the community and became one of the most horrifying cases in Arizona. Dyer and his accomplice attacked the family late at night. Dyer assaulted Rachelle, stabbing her and slashing her throat. While Albert, the father was beaten with an aluminum baseball bat. The youngest child, Damien, was killed as well. Dyer’s partner in crime later pleaded guilty and received a separate sentence. Dyer was found guilty of four counts of first degree murder and sentenced to death. Over the years the case has drawn tons of attention from the public. He has remained on death row for more than 29 years. The state of Arizona currently has 108 prisoners on death row. For the Luna family, the tragedy of 1993 has never faded. Friends and neighbors still remember the family as kind, hardworking, and deeply connected to their community.
