A Sheriff deputy was released from rehabilitation hospital Thursday after a shooting that took place in September in North Codorus Township.
Lieutenant David Godfrey, a 24 year old veteran, walks out of the rehabilitation hospital. The shooting that landed Godfrey in the hospital took place on Sep 17, 2025 after 3 Regional Police and Godfrey were all shot while serving a warrant. The motive for the shooting was domestic violence. David Godfrey was shot several times in the leg and torso. During the shooting officers placed multiple tourniquets on Godfrey.
Northern York County Regional police Det. Sgt. Cody Becker, Det. Isaiah Emenheiser, and Det. Mark Baker along with Det. David Godfrey, were all shot and killed except Godfrey. At 2:05 pm detectives opened a door where the suspect shot at the detectives. “Dave you are a fighter, and it showed, we’ve been together for a long time”, said York County sheriff Richard Keuerleber. “Typically, when patients leave our hospital they’re using a wheelchair, walker, or a cane. But as you saw today
Lt. Godfrey walked into this room using nothing but a brace and his own two feet”. Dr. Brain Nguyen said.
David Godfrey shared his thanks to the community and staff. “You do this job, you do it because you just want to help. That’s how I’ve always operated” said Godfrey. David Godfrey is a lieutenant, k9 specialized services, and community service division.
Godfrey was seen in good spirits when leaving the hospital even making a few jokes and smiles. When asked how he was doing he responded “im good”! “They were awesome at everything they did. Great guys, you know, and rock solid on everything they did. I mean, I can’t really say much more than that,” Godfrey said.
Godfrey say he plans to continue serving the community with the York County sheriff’s office when he gets all-cleared. People close to Godfrey were extremely emotional as he prepared to leave the hospital.
