Recently, September 18th, Ben & Jerry decided to quit their own ice cream compliant due to the way Unilever, the company that owns it now, is handling things, this recently happened in Vermont. They accused Unilever of supporting stuff like abortion and climate change, which they do not agree with. On top of that, there have been lawsuits against the company and it just made everything worse. Ben & Jerry decided to quit and be helpful from the outside instead of being an employee inside. Even though they started the business back in 1978 and made it one of the most famous ice cream brands in the world, things have changed over the years. The company is now owned by Unilever, much larger company. Recently Jerry faced lawsuits and the pressure caused them both to quit.
The lawsuits against the company made it hard for Ben and Jerry to continue their involvement. Some people accused the brand, Unilever, of making political statements that not everyone agreed with. Then conflict was created and leg to legal problems. Ben & Jerry are already old in age. Additionally have been an employee at Ben & Jerry’s for so long and chose to walk away from the shop. They have made the decision to help from the outside instead of inside the company.
In the end, a small business that began as 2 friends selling homemade ice cream grew into a global brand owned by a large corporation and that global brand owned by a larger corporation. Ben and Jerry stepping away was a way to stay away from conflicts.
