On Sept. 16, 2025 Oscar winning director, actor, and environmentalist was pronounced dead in his home in the mountains of Utah. He died in his sleep. He played in various movies such as Charlotte’s Web, Pete’s Dragon, and Captain America. He directed the amazing award winning films such as “Ordinary People” and “A River Runs Through it.” Cindi Berger, his publicist stated “Robert Redford passed away on September 16 in his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah – the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved”. She also stated that his family requested privacy.
Many celebrities are mourning Redfort’s death. “It hit me hard this morning when I read that he was gone. I can’t stop crying,” Jane Fonda said in a statement. “He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for.” Meryl Streep, who also worked side Robert Redford in the 1985 romance “Out of Africa, also expressed her grief in a statement writing, “One of the lions has passed. Rest in peace my lovely friend.” Current president Donald Trump stated that Robert was one of the best, and there was “nobody better” at some point in time. After indicating he passed in his sleep Trump states “Good way to go, I guess.”
Roberts was born on Aug. 18, 1936 he grew up living in and out of Los Angeles. His father was a milkman who later became an accountant, and his mother was a homemaker who passed in his teens. Robert attended the University of Colorado in the 1950s and received an honorable degree in 1988. Robert Redford was a gifted baseball player who received a partial scholarship to the University of Colorado but unfortunately he lost it due to excessive drinking and partying. After college Robert traveled to Europe where he discovered and studied art before returning to the US to pursue acting as his career. Robert Redford had two wives in his life, his first being Lola Van Wagenene who was a historian and activist, they married in 1958 to 1985. They had four children together. His second wife Sibylle Szaggars, they married in 2009 and were together up until his death. They shared the same passion in environmentalism.
Robert Refort was an amazing and talented director and actor, his legacy will live on and the impact he had on the film world will always remain. His memory will be remembered forever and he will always be missed.
