Gators Win
On April 7, 2025, the Florida Gators took down the Houston Cougars winning the third college men’s basketball championship. This game was really intense and went back-and-forth all game with both teams having their own success and problems in different ways with that being said the Florida gators ended up defeating the cougars 65 to 63 with an intense ending.
Houston
At the beginning of the game, it was Houston that was taking over completely as they opened up with an eight and zero run to have the first half’s biggest lead. Richard, a key shooter on the team, hit a three pointer and had pivotal plays that helped them throughout the game. The cougars were doing a great job at shutting down the Florida gator star player, Walter Clayton Junior as he scored seven points and shot 16% from the field. Clayton typically has way better numbers at this point in the game however Houston was doing a great job at playing defense on everybody. The gators were trailing, however, it was time for them to make their change.
Florida
The gators came out by cutting the lead down to four and this is without their star player Walter Clayton Junior. With a bunch of transition points the gators were able to continue their lead to a 15 three run over 5 and a half minutes in the second half this caused for a neck and neck ending between the two teams. To end the game, the Cougars had the last possession and needed a three pointer to win the game. He went up for the shot and never shot it causing a travel and giving the Florida Gators a chance to run out the clock the rest of the game Coach Golden had this to say “ Just an incredible moment and something I won’t forget.” Showing how important this was to him.
