On April 2, 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was stabbed in the heart by 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony at Frisco High School’s track meet.
Last week, the Frisco Independent High School confirmed that the interaction happened during a meet between eight other high schools within the district. The stabbing happened during a weather delay, and it resulted in his death.
According to the police, Karmelo was under the wrong tent, and Austin asked him to move. When Austin tried to move him physically, Karmelo reached into his bag and said, “Touch me again and see what happens.” After he said that, Austin then grabbed Karmelo and asked him to move. That is when Karmelo pulled out the knife and stabbed Austin once in the chest and ran. Austin allegedly died in his twin brother’s arms. Austin’s father stated, “If it wasn’t for my faith I wouldn’t be here.” And Austin’s mother Meghan said, “My son is not here anymore, and I don’t understand it.”
Karmelo was arrested and charged with Austin’s murder. He told the police, “I was protecting myself,” and said “he put his hands on me, I told him not to.” The report states he asked if what happened could be considered self defense.
