Disney’s Snow White is a 2025 musical remake of the critically acclaimed 1937 animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. The movie was directed by Marc Webb and includes choreography by Mandy Walker. The stars of the movie include Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot and Andrew Burnap; as well as the vocal talents of George Salazar, Andrew Barth Feldman, and Tituss Burgess.
The film centers on the kind-hearted princess Snow White (played by Zegler), who’s kingdom has been devoid of compassion by her stepmother: the evil queen (played by Gadot). With the help of a band of thieves-led by Burnap’s character, Johnathan-and a group of magical dwarves, Snow White restores peace and compassion to her kingdom; falling in love and retaining her empathetic nature on the way.
Zegler truly shines as the titular Snow White, giving a spectacular vocal performance in songs such as “Waiting on a Wish” and “Whistle While You Work.” Similarly, Burnap certainly charms as the Robin-hood-esq love interest Johnathan; with his past broadway experience shining through in his performance and character. On the contrary, Gadot gives a lackluster performance as the evil queen, complimented only by subpar acting and uninspired singing. The CGI-dwarves are nothing to write home about, albeit for the fantastic broadway-inspired vocals their actors give during, “High-Ho” and “Whistle While You Work” respectively.
The film currently stands with a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, accompanied with mixed reviews from both critics and fans alike. Many have credited the film’s failure to comments made by Zegler regarding the nature of the original 1937 film, while others have pointed out that Zegler’s performance is the saving grace of an otherwise bland picture.
Overall, while not an Oscar-winning motion picture or anything to really write home about, Disney’s Snow White is overall a fun family film with broadway-inspired songs, an easy to follow storyline, and fun characters that young kids in particular would love.
