Creative writing is often viewed as an unnecessary luxury in most schools or a hobby rather than an essential skill of education like math or history. I’m lucky enough to have a creative writing class in my school and I think every student should have the opportunity too. I believe that creative writing should be taught in every school because of three key reasons.
The first reason is as in its name creative writing brings out student creativity. It allows them to write anything they desire. Students also get to explore their ideas in writing. The thing with creative writing is that they can also explore different genres like horror, romance, sci-fi, fantasy, and many more. They can write anything their heart and mind desire.
The second reason is creative writing can make students think critically. Creative writing is not just about making up stories. Writers must develop plots, create characters and conflicts, resolve those said conflicts, and create different settings. It also allows students to write and think in different perspectives.
The last and final reason is writing can allow a relief. I know when I write it allows me to say things I could never say out loud and it makes me feel better. I’m not saying every student but I know this could help a lot of students if they just wrote how they felt or turned it into a story. Sometimes it’s easier to write how you feel rather than talk about it.
Creative Writing should not be seen as an optional subject but as an important part of education. It brings out student creativity, enhances critical thinking, and allows students a relief. Overall creative writing in every school would be a great step forward and a great decision for students everywhere around the world.
