On Feb. 1, police were called to the Derita house for a domestic dispute. They found the house with 63 chihuahuas and filled with urine and feces. Some of the rooms were filled with inches of urine and feces. Some dogs had to be cut out of areas to be taken and all of them have never socialized with other humans or even been outside on grass or in the sun. Some of the female dogs were pregnant. All of the dogs are infested with parasites and will need care before being adopted. Since the dogs have never socialized with humans, they bite at anyone that comes close. “There was no food or water for the dogs found anywhere inside.” The SPCA said. The only room cleaned was the parent’s room. Most of the dogs were taken except for 12, and they had a 15-year-old who was not able to live there as well. One of the chihuahuas was in such bad condition that it was alive, stuck in between the couch, and had to be put down due to its severe injuries. Ray Derita is being charged with prohibited possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated cruelty to animals and neglect of animals. Stephanie Derita is being charged with endangering the welfare of children and neglect of animals.
