It’s getting hot down south, and not with good intent. Fires have been raging throughout Chile for the past week, and it still has yet to look good. The fires first occurred on Jan. 20, roughly around the same time of the fires Chile had last year in the first week of February. The fires are assumed to have formed from the strong winds and heat wave currently going through Chile. However, this is no simple fire. This is a wildfire which, in short, is a raging fire that spreads quickly and dangerously. Especially over grassland and forest areas.
This wildfire alone, as of Feb. 13, has killed just over 130 people, and only 35 have been identified. The fire still has yet to die down at all. There have been multiple reports for safety protocols and for people to get to safety. Over 37 homes have been destroyed so far, with more to lose as time goes on.
