Social Media is now corrupting not only teen relationships but other relationships as well. Some apps that contribute to this are Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Social media can bring people together, but it can also ruin your relationship. The internet has become an integral part of our lives. “Social media has many benefits but can also have a dark side,” said Brody Wooddell. One of the biggest impacts it could have on relationships is that it can distract from face-to-face communication. It can lead to feelings of disconnection and also one-sided relationships. There are so many ways the internet can negatively impact relationships by promoting unrealistic expectations. Social media can make it seem that you are the perfect couple, but it could lead to other people feeling jealous, insecure, and even maybe depressed. If people in relationships don’t properly balance social media life and real life, it can lead to more problems in the relationships. Studies have shown that before social media, relationships were more healthy and more stable. Social media has a large impact on all relationships even though you may not notice. The internet can allow you to share special moments instantly, bridging distances that once kept you wondering if it would work or not. It could also allow you to get lost in the online relationship that you now don’t know if it could ever be real. The worst thing it could lead to is misunderstandings and conflicts because it’s easier to make things up behind a screen. It could create unrealistic expectations, but on the other hand it allows you to spend more time figuring out who that person is and their intentions with you and the relationship.
