America’s temperatures have been dropping severely since the beginning of 2025. Even states like Texas have been reaching lows that have not been seen in a while. All states have been experiencing temperatures as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit; except for Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, New Mexico, Nevada, and Oregon. Even with Florida not being one of the lower temperatures, it has still managed to receive “significant” snow for the first time in 48 years. The recent drop in temperature is causing some meteorologists to theorize that the time of year North America is supposed to be experiencing cold and snow is beginning to push from December to January. These cold temperatures are due to something called a “polar vortex”, which is a large area filled with cold air and low pressure remains in an enclosed space. Polar vortexes always exist on both poles of the Earth. However, more can form and expand when the low pressure is disrupted by a weather event. Although, they can also form by other means. Such as where the vortex “looks” for a way to equalise the pressure it’s lost. The polar vortex expanding has caused this “flash freeze” to appear over America.
