Jan. 20 2025, was the most depressing day of the year. It was so depressing that according to Sunny 106.9, there was a “positivity campaign” launched in the Netherlands, to not complain for 30 days. This campaign or challenge was created because they wanted a way to shift your perspective from all the whining and negativity. Now, knowing this information, some of us had already failed, but that’s okay because we could start any day, and some of us started on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025. The idea of Blue Monday was created by Cliff Arnall and the UK travel company Sky Travel in 2005. The reason why they created it was because Sky Travel wanted to increase sales after the holiday season. But Mr. Arnall was asked to create a “scientific formula” to find what day was the most depressing day of the year. This formula included factors like weather, debt, and failed New Year’s resolutions. But later in Cliff Arnall’s life, he distances himself from this concept. After he distances himself, it becomes more popular in the media. Very few people argue that there was nothing scientific about Blue Monday because the formula was not based on rigorous research.
