The Chicago Bears hire a new coach, Ben Johnson, as their head coach. This announcement was made on Tuesday. “A person with winning pedigree and a mind toward innovation. We are excited to welcome Ben and his family to Chicago as our head coach.” Said by general manager Ryan Poles. Before Ben became their new coach, he was number two ranking offensive player for the Detroit Lions in 2024. He had 68 total offensive touchdowns, which was the most by any NFL team. Ben had some other coaching experience before he became the head coach for the Lions; he had spent a total of six seasons with the Lions. He had also served seven seasons with the Miami Dolphins as a staff member. He worked in the capacity of offensive assistant. He is still staying in the NFC north as head coach for the Bears. Johnson, along with defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, are two of the leading candidates for head coaching jobs in this year’s hiring cycle. Lions head coach Dan Campbell said this week he expected both Johnson and Glenn to be hired as head coaches and he expected to lose both. Campbell had said that the next coordinators could potentially be internal candidates already on staff or candidates possibly outside of the organization. Campbell states, “I think we’ve got guys on staff that I think are more than qualified and would be outstanding in those roles, but that does not mean that I’m not looking outside either.”
