The Spring Grove Rockets took on the Central Panthers on Friday the 13th, at Central’s court. After interviewing some players from the Spring Grove basketball team, one stuck out in particular: Mason Baumgardner said, “Central’s refs seem to hold a strong bias against the Rockets every year that we return. It’s frustrating, but with hard work and perseverance, we can definitely beat them!” Alongside this, I decided to ask a random boy named Tanner from the Central student section; he just started chanting when questioned about the game. The game began with a decent start. It was head-to-head from the beginning. As the game progressed, you could see Central began to dominate, but in saying that, Spring Grove would come right back up and begin to tie them or get ahead of them. After the second quarter had begun, you saw all the Rocket’s steam was gone, and they began to ‘let’ Central score multiple points on them. By the end of the game, the score was 74-51; the Rockets coaches were increasingly upset, shaking their heads and pacing. The Rockets came ready to play despite the outcome and won’t allow this loss to affect their future gameplay; in fact, they will allow it to fuel them and make them learn from their mistakes. Upon the game’s ending we stood near players to get their input. You could tell the Rockets were massively defeated by the loss, hoping for their highly increased comeback when they play them again.
