The latest Disney movie, Moana 2, came out on November 27 in theaters across America. People were excited for this new Moana to come out as the first Moana gained a lot of praise for being one of the best Disney movies ever to be created.
Moana 2 was in close competition with the new movie Wicked, which came out around the same time as Moana 2. One of the main reasons that Wicked ended up gaining more recognition was because the new Wicked movie was also a book and a show on Broadway, while Moana 2 was not. The people had many questions on why Wicked seemed to be more popular but Moana 2 ended up making more money overall. Tommy McArdle, a journalist from People’s Magazine, mentioned that Moana 2 is currently taking the world by storm with its amazing outcome. Many think that Moana 2 will end up on top, but Wicked is still soaring and may overtake Moana 2 in the coming months. McArdle has stated that the film has broken numerous box office records along with wicked and many other movies released around thanksgiving time.
Meg Walter from Deseret articles states that even though many people paid to see Moana 2 in theaters they were disappointed with the outcome. Walter mentioned that many viewers of the movie didn’t have the same feelings as they did for the first Moana. Viewers of the movie believed that Moana 2 didn’t follow the storyline of the first movie. People believed that Moana 2 fell short of the expectations they had based on the first Moana.
