The NBA season is only two weeks underway, and a lot has already happened. This season has already proved the game of basketball is changing more and more every year. Every year, teams are taking more three pointers than the last. This has happened again this year. So far, 41.8% of shots taken this year have been three-pointers. This is the highest rate ever, with last year being 39.5%. Before this year, there have only been 3 teams to take at least half of their shots from three, but just this season, there have already been 3 more teams. Also, LaMelo Ball is tied for shooting the most three-point attempts per game ever at 13.
Another big thing that’s happening this season is that the Cleveland Cavaliers are currently undefeated; so far, they are 12-0, being just the eighth team to ever do this. On average, they are winning each game by 12 points; they are also averaging the most points per game in the league with 122.4. They also have the highest field goal percentage this game at 52.0%. This means that they are the best offensive team in the league because they are super efficient while putting up a lot of points at the same time. Other surprising records so far are the Milwaukee Bucks winning only 4 games while losing 8, and the Dallas Mavericks only winning 5 out of 11.
So far Giannis Anterokounmpo is the league’s leading scorer with 33.3 points per game, followed by Anthony Davis with 30.2. A surprising top scorer is Norman Powell who’s averaging 24.9 points per game, that’s 11 points more per game than last season. Nikola Jokic leads the league in assists and rebounds per game, he also is fifth in scoring. Defensively, Victor Wembanyama leads the league in blocks per game with 3.8 and Dyson Daniels leads the league in steals with 3.6 per game.
Overall the NBA season is off to a good start and it’s shaping up to be an exciting season!
