With the success of the last three main games in the franchise, gearbox announced they’re fourth main game in the borderlands franchise is in development. We will be breaking down the trailer and everything we know so far about the upcoming Borderlands 4, although the game is set to come out 2025 there is no specific release date.
While the last three main games have taken place on a planet called Pandora, this game will take place on a new planet. The players are meant to be more central characters of the borderlands 4, where in the past games the story has been centered around NPCs.
Borderlands 4 will take place after the end of Borderlands 3 and is coming out on new gen consoles and steam. The game is Available to be wishlisted now, the trailer starts off with Pandora’s moon Elpis teleporting out of the fire hawk symbol and crash into a force field revealing a new planet with civilizations as meteors from Elpis crash onto the planet the is a robotic hand that picks up a mask from the crater that one of the meteors made, that is revealed to be the bandit mask that’s iconic to the Borderlands franchise after the Borderlands four title a face with the vault symbol on it and what looks to be eridian writing that say “break free” and “he is watching”.
Less characters from the other Borderlands games will be returning. There will be four new playable vault hunters to play as and gearbox intends to keep the same humor that they’ve had in previous games many speculated that the beloved Borderlands 2 villain Handsome jack work be returning as the main villain but Randy Pitchford from gearbox denies the rumors and describes that the person at the end of the trailer to be “far more dangerous and sinister”.
Background info for borderlands In the first Borderlands you could play as four characters, Roland, Lilith, Brick and Mordecai. They came back as the main npcs in borderlands 2, where you do missions to find each vault hunter while trying to get the vault key from Handsome Jack. In borderlands two you find out that Jack has a siren daughter who was charging the vault key to open the vault and let out a monster called the Warrior, but when you free Angel who’s Jacks daughter, Handsome Jack pops up, and ends Roland and takes Lilith, then you find the location of the vault you fight jack until you almost defeat him when he unlocks the vault and unleashes The Warrior, after defeating The Warrior you are giving the option to defeat Handsome Jack or have Lilith defeat him. In borderlands 3 two siren twins steal Lilith’s siren powers, defeat they’re dad and unlock the destroyer from the first game and Tyreen Calypso merges with the vault monster. Lilith, Brick, and Mordecai return to borderlands 3 with Lilith being the main npc and saving pandora from the moon Elpis.
