Over the past 17 years there have been 675 school shootings in the United States. In 2023 there were 82 just by the end of September. The government is trying to make schools a safer place each year, but each year more and more school shootings keep happening.
The definition of a school shooting is as follows : An armed attack at an educational institution, such as a primary school, secondary school, high school or university, involving the use of a firearm. Many school shootings are also categorized as mass shootings due to the amount casualties.
In August a school in Georgia had a shooting by a kid who goes to the school. Two 14-year-old students and two teachers were shot and killed in the shooting. The student was said to leave the classroom at the beginning of class and when he came back and knocked on the door to come back in, the student who got up to let him back in noticed he had a gun. A law enforcement official told the news channel that the student had an AR-15-style rifle.
