A massive fire at an old furniture factory broke out on Saturday, April 27, 2024 in Stewartstown, Pennsylvania. The first alarm for the fire came around 2:00 A.M. to a service center near the building. It was determined later that the fire was located at the rear portion of the empty furniture factory.
Many people and firefighters in the area had a fear of the building catching fire, so much that a pipe was installed to ensure fire engines would be able to connect their hoses in the event of a large fire happening in the area. The department also put together a 13 page plan in the event that the particular furniture building would catch fire.
Chief Gibney claims that this fire will end up going down as the largest fire in Eureka history and is likely to be one of the biggest fires in York County as a whole. The fire was so big, in fact, that embers from the blaze were landing almost three miles away from the site of the fire on Rinley and Vineyard roads. Even two days after to the fire having been put out, onlookers in York County claim that they can still see smoke rising from the building
Currently the fire is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall with the help of the Southern Regional Police Department. The officials are saying that there could be more than one possibility as to why the fire started.
