On Sunday, February 25th, Liverpool and Chelsea went head to head in a Carabao Cup Final rematch. This game has been just a few years in the making, and a very highly anticipated match with two very young teams.
The game began in a very defensive fashion, with neither team being able to score in the first half of play. Going into the second half, it seemed as though Chelsea would be the team coming through with most of Liverpool’s biggest players out of the match. That would not be the case though, and the scoreless game remained through 90 minutes.
The game then went into extra time, with the first half being the same story as regulation time, scoreless. This then lead to the possibility of a penalty shootout, which many thought would be the outcome, which many also thought would end in a Chelsea win after numerous Liverpool substitutions.
When it came down to the last minutes of extra time with a penalty shootout approaching, star defender Virgil Van Dijk scored an outstanding header to give Liverpool the lead, and eventually win the game and the Carabao Cup.
This will not be the last meeting between these two teams though, as they still have play each other in the Premier League and have a possibility of meeting in the FA Cup in the near future depending on who each team draws.
