The development of movies over the years has had drastic changes. The change from no sound to sound, no color to color, old laggy cameras to working technology sets, and many more.
The first ever camera to film a movie was with the Camera Obscura. The first movie filmed with the camera was called “Roundhay Garden Scene.” The first creators to make a movie were the Lumiére brothers. Years later movie creators started making movies with color and sound. The first colored movie came out in 1908 and was called “A Visit to the Seaside” and the first sound movie came out in 1927 and was called “The Jazz Singer.” The creators for those movies were George Smith and Warner Bros. The last silent movie was called “The Artist” and it came out in 2011.
As production grew bigger and bigger, in the year 1887 Hollywood became a hit. As Hollywood started releasing movies they got more and more popular. The first movie Hollywood ever released was called “The Count of Monte Cristo” in 1908. Directed by Cecil B. DeMille.
Alexandre Astruc once said “Direction is no longer a means of illustrating or presenting a scene but a true act of writing.” This explains that when movies first started coming out the directors were more worried about the picture because they had no sound or color, but as time went on and sound and color was added they realized the picture or scene wasn’t the most important part, it was the writing and the script that would change the movie.
Now, in 2024 the movie industry has had its ups and downs and has gained a lot more of a following, almost 96% of all US citizens own at least one television in a household. In the 1800s only 9% of the entire world had televisions. What a big of a difference from when movies first started to now.
