We all have that one person we love and admire, right? This person could be anyone you are close to, like a grandparent, sibling, parent, close friend, etc. No matter who this person is we look up to them. This person, for me, is my sister, Grace Rogers.
I look up to Grace and no matter what she does to make me mad I always forgive her because that’s how much I appreciate her. Grace is a strong person who doesn’t realize how important and strong of a person she really is to me and herself. Grace is everything to me which is why I chose to interview and write about her.
Today I have asked her a series of questions that all relate to her high school career. These questions were made to get her thinking.
When I asked her how her senior year is going so far she replied, “Honestly, not that horrible. It’s going fast though and I’m not ready for school to be over.” When I asked her this question I realized that she is doing very well this year and has made great progress. I then asked her what the easiest part of school was and the hardest part? Her reply was: “Hardest part so far was getting through chorus, I don’t really like it.” Her response to the question about the easiest part of school was that “The easiest part is simply coming to school. I kinda just breeze through my day.”
The thing that anyone can learn from this is that if you put forth all your effort you can have a great day, everyday. Even if this effort is as small as just showing up to something, you can get far with every little bit of time and effort you put in. If you put in something as small as time, eventually you get something great out of it.
When I asked Grace what her favorite part of this year was so far she responded by saying, “My favorite part of this year would probably be my open study periods.” To expand on this question I asked her why she enjoys her open study halls which she answered by saying, “I enjoy spending my time with my friends in the comfy chairs. It’s much better than sitting in a study hall and being silent.”
I learned that Grace likes company instead of solitude. I understand where she is coming from because everyone no matter who you are prefers company over solitude.
I asked another question about her future. This question was what is she looking forward to this year, which she stated, “I’m looking forward to graduation. As much as I love high school, I’d like to get my life started.” To dig a little deeper into this question I asked what she wanted to do when she finally does graduate? She replied by saying,“I really wanna study criminal justice and go on to be a crime scene investigator.” After hearing her response to this question it led me to ask what got her interested in criminal justice? Her answer to this was,“I’ve just always liked shows like Dateline and then when I signed up for my criminal justice class with Mr. Baker my junior year, I fell in love. I learned so much.”
This answer was very interesting to me because I didn’t know that dateline and her criminal justice classes were the factors into her wanting to be a CSI.
After hearing what she was looking forward to and what she would miss, I further asked her what she wasn’t looking forward to after graduation in which she stated,“I’m not looking forward to leaving high school behind to be honest. I’m going to miss many people. Teachers and those ‘friends’ that are either your back ups or those people that you do projects with because you don’t have any friends in that one class.”
What I found within this question was that Grace will miss the friends she made and all the times she had with them.
Grace is such a wise person who gives a lot of good advice. With this being said, l asked her one piece of advice for others in which she said, “If you wanna try out for something like the play, the musical, or even a sport you’ve never tried: just do it. I’ve missed so many chances. You only live through high school once, so make the best of it.”
