Spring Grove Area High School is having their Homecoming Football game on Friday, October 20th at Papermaker Stadium.
The record this season is 3-5 with a rocky 0-4 start. The start of their three game winning streak came from Eastern High School. On that winning streak, they averaged 61 points and scored a total of 26 touchdowns. Their last two games are against Dallastown and Southwest, both their rival teams.
Some seniors on the football team were interviewed and asked about their football season and homecoming festivities, and their homecoming game. Here are there answers.
We asked, “Since you are graduating this year, are there any wise words or advice you want to share to the underclassmen who will be taking your spots? Cowan Ruhland, the star quarterback, said he would tell underclassmen to “just work hard, make sure you study film and…give it all your effort”.
When asked about the plan for Friday’s homecoming game, Landon Bailey said, “Play like we’ve been playing like the past four weeks, get the W”.
Their last game against York High was a loss by 30 points, but when asked about a different plan for this game, Claire Elliot, a senior kicker, said “team wise, just… stay together,…stay positive, keep the energy up” and “not get down on each other”.
Asking what their most memorable moment this season, Luis Salcedo said, “probably coach Redding giving a speech about how we’re all brothers and how we should work as a team and fight for each other on the football field and I think that really hit me in the heart”. “uh , the win over eastern. They were 4-0 the time we played them , so that was a nice win,” says Christian Prowell.
Three of the senior football players are on homecoming court, so we asked how that felt about it. Cowan Ruhland said “I don’t really care. But it’s cool, it’s a good experience”. Claire Elliot said “It’s exciting, very unexpected honestly, but it’s a lot of fun, I like all the people [on court]. So it’s very exciting for my senior year”. Micheal Hershey said “ I mean it’s definitely an honor”. “I think it’s something to celebrate and I’m glad to be on [court]”.
