Many teams in the NFL 2025 seasons have not been as good as advertised amongst them are the Baltimore Ravens. Additionally, they’ve been the Apex predators of the AFC North. However, they currently stand 1-5, a far cry from playoff contention. Since drafting quarterback Lamar Jackson in 2018, the Ravens have been in elite company in the AFC. Amongst them have been the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, both of which they lost to this season.
The Jackson effect for the Ravens cannot be measured by plays or wins for the team, but rather by the overall excellence of all benefits. Without Jackson, the playcalling is noticeably worse and defensive expectations are not met. However in the teams conjure this season both of these issues have occurred even with the quarterback starting. After a recent loss against the Chiefs, John Harbaugh, was considerably frustrated with the Offensive playcalling. After the game the head coach spoke on the matter saying, “I don’t think our approach was good. I’m not happy about it.” This was just one of the many remarks he made at the offensive coordinator, Todd Monken.
For most Ravens fans the Chiefs game serves as a reminder of the incompetence of the team when facing a playoff opponent. Both sides of the ball for the Ravens are being challenged. Defensive coordinator Zach Orr has noticeably struggled to get players in positions to make plays. In addition to this there has been a lack of pass rush, where the team ranks 29th. Veteran cornerback Marlon Humphrey, when asked to speak on the defense said this, “I know we’ve got Lamar Jackson, but we can’t expect them to score 28 [or] 30 points per game.” In later comments Humphrey stated, “We’re just not very good,” Humphrey said. With the current defensive environment there is no telling when things will look to get better. It seems like the NFL and associates are all in participation for the beginning of the end for the Baltimore Ravens.
